Who I Work With
I work with children, teens, adults, couples, and families navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, identity exploration, and major life transitions. I also have a strong interest in supporting individuals from culturally diverse backgrounds and helping clients feel understood within the context of their lived experiences and identities.
My Approach
My approach is flexible, collaborative, and client-centered. I draw from psychodynamic therapy to help clients understand how past experiences and relationships shape present emotions and patterns, while also integrating CBT, DBT, ACT, mindfulness-based practices, and expressive approaches when clients need practical tools for coping, emotional regulation, or self-expression.
I believe therapy is not only about techniques, but about building a genuine and trusting connection where clients feel emotionally safe enough to be themselves. My goal is to create a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered to grow at their own pace.
What to Expect
Clients can expect warmth, empathy, and unconditional support in our work together. I strive to create a safe space where sensitive emotions and experiences can be explored openly. At the same time, I will gently help clients challenge themselves when they are ready to make meaningful changes in their lives and relationships.
Background
My interest in mental health counseling comes from both personal and cultural experiences. I grew up in China and have studied independently in the United States since high school, which has given me firsthand experience navigating different cultural expectations, environments, and identities. During difficult periods in my own life, counseling provided me with meaningful support and coping tools, which deepened my desire to help others.
Coming from a culture where mental health stigma is still common, I am passionate about increasing awareness around mental health and creating spaces where clients feel more comfortable seeking support without shame or judgment.
Languages
I offer therapy in both English and Mandarin.
Education & Training
I am currently pursuing my Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling at New York University (NYU), where my training includes trauma, cross-cultural counseling, addiction counseling, ethics, individual and group counseling, and relational therapy.
In-person sessions in Lynbrook; virtual therapy across New York.
