Marisa Colombi MHC-LP

Hi, I’m Marisa (she/her/hers)!

I am a provisionally licensed mental health counselor who is looking forward to helping you reach your goals. I graduated with my bachelor’s degree from Saint John’s University while majoring in psychology and graduated with my masters degree in mental health counseling from Adelphi University.

I work with children of all ages, teens and young adults and believe that therapy should be flexible and adaptable to each unique client. I like to incorporate different styles and techniques into treatment depending on the needs of the individual. The modalities I gravitate toward include Play Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic, with an emphasis on strengths, empowerment, and humanistic values. I also like to use art, music and narrative based techniques when needed. I am capable of working with individuals who struggle with anxiety, depression, behavioral issues, ADHD, Autism, relationships, day to day stressors and so much more.

To me, therapy is a collaboration between the client and I, working towards the same goal. I am there to create a safe and welcoming environment where people of all ages can come and sort out their feelings and experiences. Therapy is most successful when a strong therapeutic relationship is present so I will be sure to get to know the person in front of me aside from/in addition to the symptoms and struggles. When working with me you will find that my history in child care allows me to be creative and patient in sessions and that my enthusiasm to help will make you feel supported.

Outside of the office I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, soaking up the sun and being in nature. I also spend a lot of time in the gym as a way to keep my mind and body healthy and happy. Yoga, music and reading are my form of self care and I continue to learn new things as a way to feed my brain but also in order to make sure I am giving my clients the best care possible.
