Sarah Wallin, LMHC
Hello! My name is Sarah Wallin.
I am a licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of New York. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Art & Philosophy at SUNY New Paltz in 2019. I continued my education at SUNY New Paltz and received my Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2021.
For the past three years I have primarily worked within the foster-care system, providing therapeutic services for children displaced from their families. I have experience working with youth as young as five years old and have focused on a multitude of presenting problems such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, C-PTSD, ADHD, significant behavioral issues (ODD), and more. I have also worked with youth from various cultures/backgrounds and those within the LGBTQIA+ community. I have a strong passion for this field and especially for working with children and adolescents.
I utilize modalities such as Play Therapy, Expressive Arts therapy, Trauma-Informed Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). I engage with clients in an eclectic way, combining the methods I feel work best for their presenting problems and taking into consideration where they are at in their mental health journey. I know it can be a challenge for many to verbalize their emotions or find ways to start discussing a difficult topic, therefore I believe strongly in the importance of finding other ways to process these thoughts/feelings, whether that be through play, art, movement, meditation, etc. I avoid being the movie caricature of a therapist who only stares and nods, instead I try to actively engage with my clients in an authentic way to build a strong rapport. My overall goal for therapy is to have the client and whomever else is involved in the process feel supported and connected.
In my free time, I love to listen to music, draw, watch movies, and cook! My favorite activity is getting cozy on the couch and watching movies all night with my cat.
I look forward to working with you!
