Sometimes the thing affecting your child happened before they had words to describe it. The early separation that their body remembers but their mind doesn’t. The chaotic first years that wired their nervous system for danger. The “small” things that weren’t small at all. The divorce that split their world, the bullying that changed how they see themselves or the medical trauma that made their body feel unsafe.

For adopted children or those in foster care, trauma might be woven into their origin story, creating questions about belonging and worth that no amount of love seems to answer. These experiences don’t just disappear; they live in the body, showing up as rage that seems to come from nowhere, fear that doesn’t match the current situation, or a need for control everything and everyone in their life.
Trauma changes how children see the world and themselves in it. A child who experienced early neglect might hoard food or struggle to accept comfort. A teen who witnessed domestic violence might either blow up at minor conflicts or shut down completely. Young people who’ve experienced trauma often seem “mature for their age” because they had to be but that hypervigilance comes at a cost. They’re scanning for danger instead of playing, managing adults’ emotions instead of experiencing their own and protecting themselves in ways that push away the very connections they desperately need.
Traditional talk therapy often falls short with trauma because the traumatized parts of the brain don’t speak in words.
We explore how your own executive functioning (or struggles with it) impacts family dynamics. You’ll develop strategies that work with ADHD brains: external cues instead of expecting internal reminders, breaking tasks into dopamine-sized chunks, using novelty and interest to maintain engagement. We also help you advocate for school accommodations to help your child thrive in the school system.
Through creative exploration, movement-based learning, and family education, we help transform ADHD from a deficit to be fixed into a difference to be understood. Because when these brilliant, creative minds have the right support, they don’t just succeed… they soar in ways that conventional thinkers never could
That’s why we use approaches that reach the body and the unconscious. Through play, children recreate and revise their experiences, taking back power in the safety of metaphor. Sandtray work lets them build worlds where they control the narrative. Art becomes a container for feelings too overwhelming to speak. Movement and somatic approaches help discharge the trapped energy of incomplete defensive responses – the fight that never happened, the flight that wasn’t possible. We work slowly, following the child’s pace, because pushing too hard too fast can re-traumatize.
For parents, supporting a traumatized child can trigger your own unresolved experiences. Their panic might activate your anxiety. Their rejection might touch your own attachment wounds. We help you understand trauma’s impact on development, why traditional parenting approaches might backfire, and how to become the regulated, predictable presence your child needs to heal. You’ll learn to recognize trauma responses versus willful behavior, understanding that your child isn’t giving you a hard time, they’re having a hard time. We teach strategies for managing triggers, creating real safety, and building connection even when your child’s trauma tells them not to trust.
The path of trauma healing can be long. But with patient, creative approaches that honor both the wound and the wisdom it created, children can learn that the danger has passed. They can update their nervous system’s programming, develop new templates for relationships, and reclaim the childhood that trauma tried to steal.
